I'm Canadian. Lived all my life in Alberta.
I have an older brother & older sister who moved to the Seattle area and became naturalized US citizens.
During the tech boom of the latter 90's I became "star-struck" with all the stories of IT jobs & big bucks and applied for residency through my sister. I was bummed at the time to learn that it would probably take 10 years.
Later on, I became interested in the whole 'go expat' idea and I've read tons and traveled to a few countries since then.
I'm so glad easy access to the USA wasn't granted to me.
If it had, I might have become a US citizen also during the good times.
Then later if I expatted, I'd be obligated to pay taxes no matter where I live (like all the Americans I read complaining about it in assorted expat forums).
And I haven't even touched on the gradual slide of the USA..

dsc,
You DON'T want to come here, trust me! America as a geopolitical entity still exists, and will exist for the foreseeable future. However, the essence of America, i.e. that which made her great, is long gone...

I don't see how this country can last for much longer, with the enemies we have outside our borders constantly plotting to destroy us, the Liberals being so good at getting into office and then cutting back on our defenses, and all the people constantly berating this country and fighting to change it for the worse from the inside.
Plus, most of the good guys leaving it up to others to save it. This country has no future unless some severe, drastic actions are taken on many, many fronts.
Possible, but not likely.

"America the Beautiful" no longer exists. It's now a mere shell devoid of substance and full of snark and hate. The rest of the West is quickly following suit.

the feisty core attitudes of the Americans ( objective thinking and fair reward for effort) hav been supplanted by politically correct claptrap which has subverted all US institutions with the latter day Pinko dogma eg as expressed in the feminit courts ( anti male ) promotion of queers and corrupted educational institutions which aim to dud boys for the advantage of girls and in the work place with policies aimed to booster feminits eg affirmative action and quotas and endles chatter about "glass ceilings"

If you are a male STAY OUT OF THE USA! Males in the marriage contract have the civil rights and legal protections of medieval serfs in the corrupt family court system.

Watch out for marriage fraud! -Be careful if you are thinking about marrying somone that is an illegal immigrant. It can be very difficult to know if they are marrying you for love or for the green card. -Never co-sign a credit card with a lover or spouse. -Avoid mixing any finances or legal issues together with a lover. Consider yourself warned & be careful!
