Is there a good source that rates and gives details of the quality of medical care throughout the different countries? I'm particularly interested in the Orient. If a guy has had heart problems, in which countries is he more likely to make it if he gets to a hospital quickly over where would he likely not make it because of a lack of knowledge or resources or facilities?

In Japan you'll do fine. The payments for the national health care system aren't cheap (some huge percentage of your income, and that only covers 70% of your expenses; basically a big subsidy to the elderly at the expense of the young), but the doctors are competent enough. Which countries are you looking at?

Which countries are you looking at? The Philippines is my first choice, although I don't really expect big things from their medical system. Maybe I'm wrong? Number two would be Thailand. I've heard a lot of people go there from other countries, including the states, for expensive surgeries, but I have no idea about their capabilities concerning heart problems. Number three is Japan, mostly because I met my wife there and I've spent more time there than any other place while in the military quite a few years ago.

I must say posting here, with the light background and black text again is like a breath of fresh air. I can't stand DGM's new dark gray background with orange text on each home page. Absolutely hate it! The only thing I've seen worse that bothers me more is a black background with light gray text.

India is a good place for medical tourism. I remember watching a special on TV about some guy getting his liver transplant in China (cause of the excess organs from all the executions).

I'm talking serious, emergency care. For instance, if I were to have a heart attack because one of the arteries to my heart clogged up, in which countries would I stand a fighting chance of making it through with my life? In which countries could they do by-pass surgery, for instance, if needed, and me have a good chance of making it through? I have already experienced this and don't want this problem to keep me in this country. As far as elective surgery on the cheap, I've heard that Thailand, in addition to India, is attracting a lot of people.

Lee has the same problem, and I think he has plans and knows exactly where the best hospitals are and how far away from them he should go if he feels the symptoms of another MI.
